This “acetone gas mileage secret“  information was from a newsletter “Insider Money Secrets” we read at one of our church members’ house when we visited the family some  months ago. The original source was from “Secrets the Oil Companies Do Not Want You to Know” authored by Louis LaPointe.

Acetone, often known as fingernail polish remover, can be safely and easily used as a fuel additive in your car, truck, motorcycle, etc. It not only improves mileage but cuts pollution dramatically and gives longer life to engines.

Acetone improves the vaporization process and allows good burning to continue without lapses during the latter phase of second stage where cylinder volume is rapidly increasing. Acetone generates a very smooth and complete burn. No ping. No hesitation. No jerking. No stalling. No wasted fuel.

Where to Get Good Acetone for Gas Mileage

Get good quality 100% acetone from your local beauty supply store. Not all just sell to beauticians, but to the public. We like Sally Beauty Supply (locations all over the US) and get Beauty Secrets Pure Acetone, a gallon (64 oz.) runs about $15.00; 32 oz. runs about $8.99.

Do not buy acetone from drug stores. I recently tried bad acetone with good gasoline in two of my cars. Both suffered a small decline in MPG from their normal good mileage. I then ran all that gas out and went back to the beauty supply acetone. The car’s mileage recovered to what it had been.

Only reagent grade acetone or technical grade is the normal acetone we buy from chemical supply houses, such as sciencelab.com. Xylene is OK to purchase at Home Depot.

The 3 chemical additives for gasoline and diesel we test most often are acetone, xylene and GP-7 from Torco International (562-906-2120).

Acetone Gas Mileage – Important Information

We have found the following ratios preferred:

2 – 3 oz acetone per 10 US gallons in gasoline
2 oz. acetone per 10 US gallons in diesel fuel

Place this amount in every tankful of gas you use. Please be careful to not get any acetone on the paint of your car as it will remove paint. Hold a damp rag or cloth underneath to catch any drips.

Please disregard information found elsewhere that indicate to use 100 to 200 times more acetone that what we recommend. This is probably to discourage its use because this amount will not benefit your mileage in any way. All devices or additives that improve mileage are liable to be attacked by those who stand to lose big money if engines last too long.

Getting good mileage and long engine life go together. Stick to the correct values given here.

Other Tips for Optimal Gas Mileage

Here are some other ways to improve gas mileage.
• 1. Get the right spark plugs: We like NGK V-Power (www.ngk.com). They have a proper resistance level that will not short out the high voltage secondary during moist or very cold weather.
• 2. Use the right oil filter: We like Baldwin or Donaldson. Baldwin filters are available from any Peterbilt Truck shop. We also use Donaldson filters #P551300 in a wide number of cars such as Toyota, Ford, Chrysler and Mazda products with the 3/4 x 16 thread size.
• 3. The right thermostat temp is 195. A hotter engine has better efficiency and lasts longer. Never use a cold thermostat setting.
• 4. Find the best gasoline station in your area, preferably one without alcohol. The author prefers Texaco, Casey, Chevron, and Cenex. I fear you will not get great mileage by putting acetone in bad gas. At least we never have.
• Then, add a little acetone to the fuel. Work with different amounts from 1-3 oz. per 10 gallons till you find what is best for your vehicle.

The better condition an engine is in, the better improvement you will see in MPG from the changes proposed here. A poor engine will not show much, if any, gain.

egims: Yes, it will increase your gas millage, and no it won’t do any harm. I have been using Acetone in my gas for years now and can tell you from a point of fact that my gas millage noticeably increases when I use it and decreased if I don’t. I drive an Eagle Summit, and my wife a Subaru Legacy. Our cars run great, no problems, period.

My Summit without should get about 28 in the city and about 32 on the highway. With acetone I get 34 in the city and 40+ on the highway. The correct amount to add to gas is 3oz per 10 gallons of gas. Sure you can have trouble if you use 100% acetone, but what moron is going to do that!!!! But in this small diluted amount there is no danger, zero, zip.

No, sorry, the dooms sayers are wrong. Diluted in that measure it will not harm your car, not destroy your seals or gas lines, not do any damage at all. This is nonsense spoken of by people who have not done their homework. Do some investigation on the net. There are dozens of sources verifying this as being safe, and effective. Same with my wifes Subaru. Better results and power with it.

Further, this is known around the world. The truth is that the oil companies go ballistic when the topic comes up. There have been attempts to persuade the government to demand an acetone/gas mixture at the pumps, but greased palms always prevail.

Use the per portions I spoke of. Less than 3oz per 10 gallons of gas will reduce the benefit, and more will reduce the benefit. It also works great in desils.
