I never knew about Switched-On SchoolHouse HomeSchool Curriculum from Alpha Omega Publications until last week. I never had homeschooled my kids because we’re not that far from our local christian school.

One of the parents and our church school teacher informed me about the Switched-On SchoolHouse Curriculum. They told me that the Switched-On SchoolHouse is not doctrinal but it’s a Bible-based curriculum.

Our church school teacher handed me a printout with information about the Switched-On SchoolHouse. So I started to research about Switched-On SchoolHouse on the internet and I read also the information that I found from the homeschool catalog that I got last month.

Below you can find the Switched-On SchoolHouse information and its sources.

Switched-On SchoolHouse Review from YAHOO ANSWERS!

Help from those who use switched on schoolhouse? hi, i (unfortunately) have to be home schooled next year for 9th grade which is a big let down for me. My mom wanted me to use abeka unless I can find something better. In my opinion, I absolutely cannot stand abeka, especially their BORING BORING videos. so, I’m looking at switched on schoolhouse but I wanted to know from those who use it if it is a good cirriculum, if it’s fun, what you do, etc. I’m also interested in other suggestions to different cirriculums–anything BUT abeka. Thanks and answer soon!! : )

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters My brother and I have been homeschooled all our lives. We used ABeka from Preschool through 2nd grade, then I started using Switched on Schoolhouse in grade 3 (that is the first year it is available). I am going to be a Senior next My brother will be in 8th grade next year. It is a great curriculum. I find it very engaging. There are video clips, slide presentations and Tiny Tutors throughout the lesson presentation that further explains concepts. SOS is a very thorough and complete curriculum and I have always enjoyed using it. My mom schedules a 4 day academic week and I still finish all my work by noon. I know the ABeka Videos can run 6 hours and you still have homework. I never have homework, it’s just part of our SOS school day. Friday is our Fun Friday. My brother and I work together on Science Experiments. (it’s easier to pull out all the lab supplies only one day each week. We also use Friday mornings to do any research papers or other projects that are assigned in SOS. Friday afternoon is we swim, skate, etc with our homeschool support group. Tell your Mom SOS is also great for her, too. Once she installs the program on your computer, sets up the school calendar, assigns your subjects to you, SOS plans out the entire school year for you and she will not have to worry about lesson plans. You just log into your SOS desktop and do the work that is assigned for the day. After reading the lesson, you answer the questions and SOS grades most of the work as you go along. The only thing Mom has to grade is essays, term papers and longer answers to some questions. There are various games like Spelling Bee, and Vocabulocity, Farmer Frank, ALL Right and The State Game to help you study before tests and such. Most days I am only scheduled to do 3 out of the 5 subjects I am doing this year each day. So you really don’t have to worry about eye strain on the computer. And you can always print out lessons and read them away from the computer if you want to. You can also print out the questions and answer them on paper *if* you want to, but then your mom will have to grade it. Pros: SOS is much cheaper than ABEKA ($360 for a complete 5 subject curriculum, Does most of your mom’s work for her, More interesting that just reading text books and answering dull workbooks. Then you don’t have to wait until your Mom has the time to grade your work to know how you did on a lesson. And if you really did bad on a lesson, your mom can clear the lesson with a click of the mouse and you can do it over again without whiting out or erasing those workbooks. Install school on the laptop and you can do your work anywhere without carrying a pile of books with you. Cons. Be sure to back up your work everyday, just in case your computer crashes. We personally don’t like SOS Math. I used ABeka through 8th grade and switched to Teaching Textbooks for Pre-Algebra. So much more interesting. and the explanations are more clear. And you only have to watch the solutions videos IF you need help with a particular problem. My brother likes Math U SEE. That was too hands on for me, but he likes it. We do add additional Literature to our homeschool program, but only because our Mom wants us to read additional Literature. She uses Sonlight as a guide. She doesn’t purchase the Sonlight Curriculum we just use the Sonlight Catalog and borrow the books that correlate with our SOS lessons from the Library. Good luck and I highly recommend SOS.
